Preliminary Work for Short Story Writing


My students go through a series of steps that help them to design and structure their short story ideas.  The elements of reason are used prominently in this planning process, once again, showing their great versatility of use for so many diverse endeavors.  Many students report that going through the preliminary steps helps them to design their story more effortlessly and makes them think more deeply about their goals, characters, and themes, thereby improving its overall success.   The "Young Author Project" noted here is Hilldale School's annual short story writing project and competition where exemplary stories are honored at the graduation ceremony.
